As the novel coronavirus starts spreading arounf the US, companies are coming together to support efforts by authorities to contain the spread of the virus. One of the most effective is social distancing and many States are now announcing partial or total lockdowns to limit human to human interactions.

Many of the bans restrict the travel of people and mostly closure of businesses and places of gatherings like churches, theatres, restaurants, parks and public gatherings.

This means a lot of people would now be staying at homes and probably working from homes. To encourage and support these efforts, Uber Eats in the US will be offering free deliveries from at least 100,000 independent restaurants.

“As more people stay home, local restaurants need your business more than ever. That’s why we’re waiving the Delivery Fee for all orders from every independent restaurant on Uber Eats—more than 100,000 local restaurants on the app,” the company said in an email Monday morning.

Customers can choose the EAT LOCAL option in Uber where a list of restaurants that are available will be shown including of course the menus and prices. All orders made here will have the delivery charges automatically waived, thus supporting both the local business and the authorities efforts to contain the virus.

To limit the spread of the virus, Uber will be providing the drivers with sanitizers. According to Uber, your food items are not touched after being packed at the restaurant.

Aside from this, Uber has committed 300,000 in free meals to first responders in the US and Canada.
