Below is are some excerpts from Bill Gates Blog on the just how dangerous climate change could potentially be as compared to the coronavirus that has literally shut down the world with many places under lockdowns and social distancing guidelines.
A global crisis has shocked the world. It is causing a tragic number of deaths, making people afraid to leave home, and leading to economic hardship not seen in many generations. Its effects are rippling across the world.
Obviously, I am talking about COVID-19. But in just a few decades, the same description will fit another global crisis: climate change. As awful as this pandemic is, climate change could be worse.
According to figures on his post, the coronavirus lockdowns and the world grinding to almost an economic halt would only reduce global carbon emissions by a mere 8% compared to last year, which still puts the world at risk of adverse effects of climate change in about 40yrs.
Analysts disagree about how much emissions will go down this year, but the International Energy Agency puts the reduction around 8 percent. In real terms, that means we will release the equivalent of around 47 billion tons of carbon, instead of 51 billion. That’s a meaningful reduction, and we would be in great shape if we could continue that rate of decrease every year. Unfortunately, we can’t.
According to Gates, Climate change would have almost the same but more severe ramifications to the world and for longer periods than the coronavirus.
If you want to understand the kind of damage that climate change will inflict, look at COVID-19 and spread the pain out over a much longer period of time. The loss of life and economic misery caused by this pandemic are on par with what will happen regularly if we do not eliminate the world’s carbon emissions.
In his projections, climate change could be as bad as coronavirus by 2060, killing every 14 people in 100,000, but by the end of the century he projects it could be five times deadlier. Read his full article here.
The connect between coronavirus and the fight against climate change boils down to the issue of shutting down economic activity to reduce carbon emission. Coronavirus has given the scientists real data of how much carbon emission can be reduced and by what measures.
What is remaining is a legalistic, moral, religious way to effect this kind of shutdowns in a more planned and consistent manner without exposing the world economy. And here is where many readers of bible prophecy agree that the connect is the Catholic Church proposal for a day of rest for the earth,
