Everyone who has ever existed on planet Earth noticed there’s a great struggle between unseen powers. This struggle is well seen in the center of human power which is the mind. The mind though not able to see this spiritual forces it is able to sense or feel it.
It looks like a fantasy movie to many but it is a real battle deciding our destinies though unseen.
The knowledge of the Bible helps us to feel this great spiritual warfare.
Talking of warfare, everyone knows the warfare involves two opposing powers seeking for the mastery.
Christians are well aware that this spiritual battle is between a Holy God(Creator of the Universe) and Satan, the fallen angel.
“Revelation 12:7 And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels, 12:8 And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven.”
Satan whose evil influence and deception brought the universe into chaos is ALREADY defeated by Jesus Christ death on the cross of Calvary, but this war is still ongoing in our world.
Satan now knowing he’s defeated by Jesus turns his focus on the followers of Jesus. He knows his only option left is to deceive and lead many he can win to perdition.
Christians are also aware of their foe but how can Satan be defeated?
Is it through physical means will he be defeated? Many charismatics uses clapping of hands to beat the devil, some uses bullets and so on, but do these really harm Satan??
No it doesn’t do him anything for this is a spiritual warfare, you don’t see your enemy that you are fighting so no physical methods will work.
There’s only one way of defeating Satan and that’s letting the One who defeated him fight the battle for you.
Jesus Christ is the only one who can help us overcome Satan and his darts.
By Studying and filling up our minds with the word of God Satan cannot defeat us. Thus SAITH the LORD, prayer and total obedience was the greatest weapon Jesus used to defeat Satan in His Earth ministry.
If Jesus who maintained unwavering trust in His Father while on Earth was harassed, insulted and tempted by Satan what would be of us who barely pray!
Luke 23:31 For if they do these things in a green tree, what shall be done in the dry?
The only proven way to defeat Satan is using the same method Jesus used:
Prayer: The Bible counsels us to always pray and cease not. Jesus was very prayerful and it helped him overcome the devil.
“Communion with God through prayer develops the mental and moral faculties, and the spiritual powers strengthen as we cultivate thoughts upon spiritual things. DA 70.4”
Unwavering Trust in God: Jesus success was found in His unwavering Trust in His Heavenly Father that He would keep Him no matter the situation. This trust He had in His Father helped Him maintained a very strong harmony with God.
We should also do the same. We should trust in Jesus Christ our savior that no matter the circumstances He will deliver us.
Total Obedience to God’s word: When Jesus was tempted by Satan He used God’s word to Rebuke him away. We must study God’s word and have faith in it if we want to defeat Satan. The only sword we have in this spiritual warfare is the Word of God which is so powerful to defeat Satan and his whole army. They run and tremble before the Word of God.
If we do these then our victory is assured but the sad part is we Cannot do anything on our own. We can’t overcome Satan with just making up our minds to do so. We have lost that strength many years ago in the garden of Eden.
Fortunately for us we have an helper and a compassionate Friend who has promised to help us overcome Satan. Jesus Christ is our Friend and Elder Brother who is fighting our battles for us. Let’s keep trusting Him by being obedient to His word ( John 14:15 ) and we will also be victorious.
As Jesus before used the word of God to sustain His faith, the tempter now uses it to countenance his deception. He claims that he has been only testing the fidelity of Jesus, and he now commends His steadfastness. As the Saviour has manifested trust in God, Satan urges Him to give still another evidence of His faith. DA 124.3
When Jesus was laid in the grave, Satan triumphed. He dared to hope that the Saviour would not take up His life again. He claimed the Lord’s body, and set his guard about the tomb, seeking to hold Christ a prisoner. He was bitterly angry when his angels fled at the approach of the heavenly messenger. When he saw Christ come forth in triumph, he knew that his kingdom would have an end, and that he must finally die.DA 782.4
At the Saviour’s resurrection a few graves were opened, but at His second coming all the precious dead shall hear His voice, and shall come forth to glorious, immortal life. The same power that raised Christ from the dead will raise His church, and glorify it with Him, above all principalities, above all powers, above every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in the world to come. DA 787.2
