Germany will hold Covid rule breakers in “refugee camps”
Germany state governments are working on a new bill if when passed into law will require the worst Covid rule-breakers to be confined in detention centres.
According to the report from The Sun, the extreme measures is the latest in the country’s efforts to stop the spread of the more contagious mutant strain of the coronavirus detected in the UK last month. The report says that in the eastern state of Saxony, those who ignore and rebel against lockdown measures will be held in a cordoned-off part of a refugee camp being built next week.
Authroites say that the centre will only be used for those who repeatedly breach self-isolation requirements. These measures will also be implemented in neighbouring Brandenburg, while in northerly Schleswig-Holstein rule breakers will be held in a part of a juvenile detention centre.
According to the report, the southwestern state of Baden-Württemberg will use rooms in hospitals. Regional governments reportedly have powers to contain people who flout lockdown requirements under the Disease Protection Act, that was first passed by the federal parliament in March, Die Welt reports.
