Africans in China are now facing the worst from of racism and xenophobia attacks from Chinese residents in what is appearing to be a clean-up of China from coronavirus.
There have been lots of reports and compalints on social media with photos showing what horrible conditions Africans in China are going through right now as landlords, hotel and hostel managers ramp up efforts to rid their premises of Africans.
This follows a report that China has ‘won’ the fight against the coronavirus locally and that the new cases of the virus are ‘imported’ into China.
What is worrying is the manner in which many of the Africans are being forcefully evicted and thrown out to the streets at a time when its impossible to get a flight back to their country.
According to many residents who spoke to the BBC, the landlords and managers are using the coronavirus pandemic to throw our African occupants, some even after collecting the rent.
“They are accusing us of having the virus,” said Tobenna Victor, a Nigerian student in Guangzhou.
“We paid rent to them and after collecting rent they chased us out of the house. Since last night we have been sleeping outside.”
“They came to my house. They told me to wait after 24 hours for the result, [but] after 24 hours nobody contacted me,” said businessman Lunde Okulunge Isidore, from the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Some have reported being forcefully taken into quarantine.
China, a communist government indeed showed the world what kind of powers they have over their people. When the virus broke out, and after the lockdown, police were seen literally nailing doors from outside and being heavy handed against anyone found outside their homes.
Worse, doctors and civilians who offered a glimpse of the real situation, that was different from what the media was asked to report ended up missing and not to be heard from again.
Now Africans are caught up in the mix as racist Chinese find a cause in the coronavirus pandemic to get rid of any Africans in their premises.
