Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe announced 8 more confirmed cases of Coronavirus in Kenya bringing the country total to 15 people. There has been no confirmed deaths in Kenya from the virus.
The eight new cases include five Kenyans and three foreigners (two French nationals and a Mexican).
“In the last 72 hours, we have received confirmation of an additional 8 cases who have tested positive for coronavirus. This now brings the total number of those who have tested to 15,”
“All the eight came through the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport between March 4 and March 17 and they have all been isolated at various facilities and are being monitored by our teams,” Statement by the CS.
The government is further tracing more than 300 people who were in contact with some of the people confirmed to have been infected for quarantine.
Following the announcement, the government has suspended all international flights effective Wednesday, March 25 as one of the measures of thwarting the spread of the novel coronavirus. All those coming into the country between Sunday and Wednesday — both Kenyan citizens and foreigners — will undergo mandatory quarantine at a government designated facility at their own expense.
“Countries wishing to evacuate their nationals must make their arrangements to do so within this period. Kenyans who are currently in foreign countries, and will not have come back within the said period, are advised to observe the guidelines issued in the respective countries wherever they are,” he stated.
Restaurants will be allowed to remain open but for take away services only. All social gatherings in religious settings such as churches, mosques are suspended while funerals and weddings will be restricted to close family members not exceeding 15.
